Natural Sciences

Along this section of the blog you will be able to join us in our travel through subjects as fascinanting as: Ecosystems and Environment (Unit 1), Human Sensitivity (Unit 2), Reproduction (Unit 3), Energy, Light and Sound (Unit 4), Electricity and Magnetism (Unit 5), and Forces and Machines (Unit 6).

To help ourselves in this task we will enjoy a vocabulary game we will play in each Unit:

Click here to download the full guide of the game for free: Word World.

No one said it would be an easy way, but we will stil try our best!!

Becouse we all have a Goal... Choose yours and just make it happen!!

Unit 1. Ecosystems and Environment.

First we studied Ecosystems and Environment. Then we went through food chains. Here you have two websites where you will be able to play some games regarding food chains (web 1 / web 2).

They can be very useful for the examinations!!

One of the practical activities we went through in order to study food chains was the drawing and sketching of some model card with which we played and self-evaluated our learning. Here you can see some examples of our work...

Is it a producer, a primary consumer, a secondary one, a decomposer??

In which ecosystem does it live?

Which are the environmental problems affecting it?

Before we finished Unit 1, we joined some research activities regarding environmental problems such us pollution, global warming and extinction. As a result of this task we enjoyed some amazing presentations on Komodo dragons, Axolotles, panda bears and others...

Unit 2. Sensitivity

Have a look at the video skeletal system and try to fill up the skeletal map hereafter!

Hereafter you have the word map on the video and a model to fill up with some information taken from it:

Now, bluid your own skeleton with the model behind, so that it can help you studiyng for our quiz!!

Have a look at the result: our GAME!!!

Fancy a making off???

Now join the following video and take some notes on the muscular system:

We also had the chance to atend Luis' brilliant presentation on the subject:

Here you have a word map we built with the information from the video:

Now here we go through the nervous system:

Here our word map once again!!

Finally, have a look at one of our brief surprising exams...

"DIG OUT THE BONE" TIME!!!

Unit 3. Reproduction.

A hard unit to deal with, since this is the first time we study it at school. We will learn some basics on sexual characteristics (primary and secondary ones), fertilisation process and gestation.

The following video contains a beautiful summary of the whole unit's contents:

Last but not least, we dedicated a couple of lessons to introduce ourselves into GENETICS. It was not easy to understand some concepts, but we reached to learn how to solve some basic problems regarding Mendel's laws.

Unit 4. Energy. Light and sound.

This unit is related to some of the Orange cards for our Tiny Town game. It deals with energy sources and forms.

Hereafter you have a short video on Nuclear energy:

Hereafter you have a short video on Biomass energy:

Hereafter you have a short video on Mechanical energy:

Hereafter you have a short video on Tidal energy:

Now, here you have a great introductory video on Light energy:

Reflection and refraction:

Sound energy:

Noise pollution:

Unit 5. Electricity and magnetism.

In this unit we are going to learn some basics about electricity and magnetism. Furthermore, we are going to enjoy several funny experiments.

Introduction to electricity:

Electric circuits:

Now try our electric circuit building games:

Once we learnt all we needed about how electric circuits work, it was tome for us to join our teams and try to come up with our own electric circuits. We used a computer-based program to designed some circuits for our towns in Tiny Town. Have a look at some of them:

Magnets & Magnetism:

First of all we learnt some basics through a video:

We took some notes on the video and made our own word maps afterwards:

Unit 6. Forces and Machines
